The workshop
Distinguished by a gold medal of the Institut Supérieur de peinture Van Der Kelen in Brussels where he trained as a decorative painter, passionate about interior decoration, Hugues Losfeld created his workshop in 2008. Based in Œuilly in the Aisne, the studio operates in France and abroad.
Specializing in the creation and restoration of murals, the Atelier favors traditional techniques: oil, beer or casein painting, as well as the use of natural pigments. It works in listed castles, prestigious residences, large Parisian apartments or buildings and listed or unlisted churches.
Decorative painting offers a wide range of styles and techniques: imitation of wood, stone and marble, also called "faux finishes" or "fake finishes", trompe-l'oeil decorations, patinas, ornamentation, murals, panoramics, grisailles in the 18th century style, grotesques and gilding.
In 2022, he received the title of Master Artisan of Art.
Portfolio

The Atelier's know-how is inherited from ancient techniques used in the 18th century. These techniques make it possible to transcribe and interpret different eras with authenticity and realism or to imitate materials in their depth thanks to oil painting, natural and durable.
The paints used are mainly based on linseed oil. The colours and shades are obtained by adding natural pigments.
The size of linseed oil molecules (50 times smaller than those of synthetic resins) allows better penetration of the support. Oil paint allows the support to breathe, moisture can escape.
This paint retains its elasticity over time and resists friction. Once dry, it has the advantage of being able to be cleaned with a simple damp sponge.
Depending on the projects, the Workshop can also use casein, made from milk.
The painter's gesture is important for the good penetration of the paints. The painters of the Atelier Hugues Losfeld never use a roller and prefer brushes made from pig bristles. For the application of paints: brushes and spalters,
For smoothing, glazing and material effects: brushes with the amusing names of “cod tails” and “badgers”.
The workshop expertise and areas of intervention:
- Restoration, creation or restitution of painted wall decorations.
- Patinas and ornamentation; imitations of wood, marble or stone which are also called “faux finishes”.
- Trompe-l’oeil and panoramic decorations
- Grisailles, grotesque.
- Gilding with leaf.
